Network Your Way To The Top

Networking events can be a scary concept if you are not prepared.  I recently went to a networking event at the Anheuser Busch Biergarten.  If I did not prepare properly for this event I would have been extremely uncomfortable.
This first tip I have for all of you is to make sure you understand what kind of networking event you are attending.  This is extremely important because some networking events are business professional and others are a socializing event.  This particular event was a more casual networking event where appetizers and drinks were served.
The first thing you should think about before attending a networking event is what you are going to wear.  I went straight from work to this event so I wore my work clothes; most people did the same thing.   The picture on the right shows what I wore to my networking event. I would always dress up rather than down.  If you are questioning your outfit you should not wear it.
Another thing you should prepare before going to the event is what you are going to bring with you.  It is extremely important that you bring your resume with you.  If you have a business card I would also bring that, this is sometimes easier to pass out at the event.
“For this event I brought along my resume.  I am still in school and don’t have a business card.  I noticed that most people here also brought their resumes,” said Micky Wheeler.
For this particular event there were alcoholic beverages served.  It is perfectly fine to have a drink or two but you should not drink excessively. Remember you are at this event to make a good impression on individuals at the event.
“This was my first networking event.  I had such a great time, it was a great atmosphere and I met a lot of employers.  I would recommend everyone to try out a networking event,” said Taylor Tiller.
I hope these tips will help you all step outside of your comfort zone and attend a networking event in the future!
